Martin Luther King Day of Service / Tikun Olam in action
For the first year Beth Chaim will be joining forces with our neighbors in North Philadelphia to STOP HUNGER NOW. STOP HUNGER NOW is an organization that uses volunteers to work in an assembly line to package high protein, vitamin rich meals to be sent over seas to developing countries. Our congregation will be working along side community members from two schools in the Strawberry Mansion Section of Philadelphia. It will be a hands-on fun day of learning and working to nourish other communities. If interested in reading more about this organization check out their web site: www.stophungernow.org/ : Working Together To End World Hunger
Beth Chaim will provide transportation from Temple Beth Chaim on Sunday January 15, 2017 to Edward Gideon Elementary School, 2817 W Glenwood Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19121. The bus will leave Beth Chaim at 8:30 AM and we will be returning to the Temple between 12:00 & 12:30PM. This activity will be in lieu of Hebrew School. Families are encouraged to come together. Bus information will be given as we get closer to the event. If families chose to meet at the school, there is a secure parking lot to park cars.
We are looking to package 10,152 meals. Each meal costs $0.29. We are collecting donations to off set the cost, $3,019.08, to create and send these meals over seas. The Rabbi has been selling fresh baked (by your children!) challahs each Sunday to go towards this event. If interested in donating please send checks or money c/o Rabbi Pearlman. If have questions about event contact Bonnie Koss at email@example.com.
Bus information and a sign-up genius will be shared in the coming weeks! We look forward to working together as a community to connect, share, and do good things while honoring Dr. King’s memory.
