Chili Fest and Night at the Races

Beth Chaim Sisterhood & Men’s Club are pleased to cosponsor an evening of unique family entertainment combining the annual Chili Fest and Night at the Races.  Please join us for fun, food and horse-racing.  Children are welcome!

 Cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child (ages 6 – 12).  Everyone is asked to bring a dish (vegetarian or meat chili, appetizer, salad, side dish, or dessert).  Beverages (soft drinks, beer and wine) will be provided.  Volunteers are also needed help with clean-up, set-up and/or food.  Please contact Patti Diamondstone at pdiamondstone@gmail.com to RSVP.

For the horse racing part of the evening, we will show videos of horse racing.  There are two parts to participating in the race:

1.     You can “buy” a horse for $10 and name it whatever you like. You do this in advance and your horse’s name is in the program.  If your horse wins, you win $50.  There are 10 horses in each race and there are 10 races, so you can buy any of the 100 horses.  For instance, you could buy the 2nd horse in the third race for $10 and name it “Bob’s Folly”.  If the 2nd horse wins in the third race, then you win $50. You can buy as many horses as you wish.

2.     At the race itself, everyone can bet on the horses.  We will collect the bets before every race.  The amount of the payout for those who bet on the winning horse depends on how many bets are placed on each horse.  The races are on a sealed DVD.  We break the seal just before the first race, and play the DVD one race at a time.

Please let us know as soon as possible the horses you would like to name.  Each horse costs $10 and the payoff is $50 if your horse wins. Just let us know:

·                Your name

·                The name of the horse (be creative!)

·                The race you want the horse to run in (1-10)

·                The horse’s number in the race (1-10)

The race positions are first come - first serve, so if you have lucky numbers, let us know as soon as possible!  Feel free to email the details.  You can send a check later.

If you buy/name a horse, you do not have to attend the race in order to win.  Of course, betting on the races in “real time” is most of the fun, so we encourage you to attend the races!  We hope to see you on 2/25.
