A Milestone on the Path of Jewish Learning

Mazal Tov! You are entering into a wonderful and exciting period of Jewish education and celebration leading up to B Mitzvah. All of us at Beth Chaim wish to help make this entire process a meaningful and transformational experience for your child, your family and our entire congregation.

Bar/bat/bnai/bnot (shortened to “b” as a placeholder for all those options and more) Mitzvah is a public acknowledgement that a young person has begun to become a responsible adult member of the Jewish community. An important step in the transition to adulthood and a public acceptance of responsibility for one's own actions, the B Mitzvah ceremony takes place in the context of a regular worship service at which a portion from the Torah is read. During the course of that service, the B Mitzvah is given the opportunity to demonstrate that they have acquired the skills to participate in the service and the knowledge to fulfill some of the obligations of Jewish adulthood.

Requirements

Prior to becoming a B Mitzvah, students must complete the Beth Chaim B Mitzvah training program outlined in the b mitzvah handbook, which includes attendance at Sababa School, services, and tutoring.

To receive a copy of our b mitzvah handbook or if you have questions about the process, please contact Cantor Boyle.

From more information, contact Jenn Boyle, Cantor Educator, at cantoreducator@bethchaim.net.

6th/7th B Mitzvah Class

Our Pre B Mitzvah students in 6th and 7th grade come together twice a month on Tuesday evenings with Cantor Boyle to learn key prayers and engage with their Torah portions and those of their fellow classmates. This experience includes socializing and a pizza dinner. Students all have ample opportunity to lead prayers from the bimah, alone and in pairs, in order to become comfortable as prayer leaders of the community.

Support for B' Mitzvah families is here!

Together Beth Chaim families can share their knowledge, experience, support, and friendship while planning the Mitzvah service and celebration.

For your convenience, we’ve put together a list of vendors and comments from B' Mitzvah of recent past. The list is NOT intended to be a Synagogue endorsement. If you are considering using a vendor from the list please do additional research and inquiry prior to hiring a vendor.
