Sababa School
Sababa means awesome, and in Sababa School, we create a learning environment that looks and feels awesome for our Kindergarten through 6th graders. Through once-a-week, hands-on learning on Sundays, our students become familiar with Jewish rituals and tradition, hone their Hebrew reading skills, pray together as one community, ask good questions, and express pride in their Jewish heritage.

Chesed- for our children and their caregivers to connect with other Jewish families at BCRC and know that they are seen, embraced, and part of a larger Jewish community.
L’dor Vador- for our children and their caregivers to become the teachers of Jewish tradition for future generations and to offer wisdom to one another.
Tzedek- for our children and their caregivers to apply Jewish values to their lives by making meaningful connections to Jewish stories and texts and engaging in acts of tikkun olam, repairing the world.

Hebrew Curriculum
All of our students participate in a community tefilah (service) each week at Sababa School, which is when they hear and sing the prayers in services together. This is an important cornerstone of Jewish identity and Hebrew learning for our students.
Curriculum Overview
Grades K-3
Our K-3 students participate in Hebrew Through Movement and a sound-to-print approach. Students learn Hebrew by hearing and responding to commands offered only in Hebrew and are introduced to key vocabulary of our holidays, rituals, prayers and blessings. They also review a letter each week to familiarize themselves with the sounds and shapes of the Hebrew aleph-bet.
Grade 4
In 4th grade, students work with our Hebrew specialist to begin decoding Hebrew words in their Hebrew primers. Students are able to read and sound out short words and phrases by the end of the school year.
Grades 5-6
In 5th and 6th grade, students build on their foundation of the last four years to begin reading and practicing Hebrew prayers. In small groups with personal instruction, students become fluent and confident prayer readers. Small groups Hebrew happens during Sababa School on Sundays and is reinforced by an additional half hour session on Zoom mid-week, which is scheduled by families to accommodate their and their tutor’s schedules.
Jewish Studies Curriculum
We use Shalom Learning’s Jewish Values Curriculum in our K-6 classrooms. Jewish studies curriculum helps students see the world through the lens of Jewish values. The curriculum covers various topics such as Jewish holidays, traditions, rituals, history, and Torah all through values such as loving kindness and inner strength, helping our children grow into mensches and approach the world with curiosity.
